Argyle Students Make All-State Band

Six Argyle High School band students were recently awarded induction into the All-State Band. The group includes four who placed first chair in the area competition.

The students competed at the Association of Texas Small School Bands area auditions on Jan. 9 at Argyle High School against 54 schools across the area.

The students were:

Courtney Klapp – Flute, Junior, First Chair, All-State 2009, (2nd consecutive year)
Jaxson Taylor – Trumpet, Junior, First Chair, All-State 2009, (2nd consecutive year)
Key Bennett – Trombone, Junior, First Chair
Aaron McLaughlin – Bass Trombone, Senior, First Chair
Jon Clark – Tuba, Sophomore
Kate Walker – Percussion, Sophomore

The students will travel to San Antonio in February to audition for chairs in the All-State Band and participate in a clinic and concert on Saturday, Feb. 13, at 2:00 p.m. in the Texas Ballroom of the Grand Hyatt Hotel

More than 9,000 high school band students from Texas auditioned in 20 different regions for a place in their respective all-region bands.  The top chairs in each region advanced to one of only five area auditions across the state and only 240 of these 1360 were selected for all-state honors.

The Argyle Eagles marching band is the reigning Class 3A State Marching Band State Champion, reclaiming the champion title at the Alamodome on Nov. 3, 2008 for their third state title win.  The Eagles performed in Chicago in December 2007 as one of eight bands from across the nation who were invited to perform at the world renowned Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic

The Argyle bands are under the direction of Kathy Johnson, Michael Lemish, Ray Hilley, and Lucy Pascasio.  Private lesson instructors worked extensively with each student to prepare audition material. For more information, contact Director Kathy Johnson at 940-262-7777 x2633.
