The Texas Education Agency recognized 26 schools in the Denton Independent School District for their significant gains on different portions of the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills test and other accountability areas with Gold Performance Acknowledgments.
The 26 recognized schools – seven secondary and 19 elementary – received at least one Gold Performance Acknowledgment, which annually recognizes the state’s highest performing schools. The staffs of these schools will be recognized at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19, at the Board of Trustees meeting at Central Services, 1307 North Locust.
Among the schools recognized for the 2008-09 school year were:
- Guyer High School – Commended Performance: Social Studies, Comparable Improvement: Reading.
- Harpool Middle School – Commended Performance: Reading/English Language Arts, Social Studies, Writing.
- Blanton Elementary School – Commended Performance: Reading/English Language Arts, Math, Science.
- E.P. Rayzor Elementary School – Commended Performance: Reading/English Language Arts, Math, Science, Writing, Comparable Improvement: Reading, Math.
Denton ISD finished with 75 total GPAs, the third consecutive increase in the TEA-awarded recognitions, school officials said. Denton ISD finished with 66 GPA awards for the 2007-08 school year and 37 in the 2006-07.
